“When we can identify, value and respond to the unique ideas and concepts children are exploring during their schematic play pursuits, we are able to nourish their thinking and support meaningful learning continuities through free-flow play” – Lynnette Brock

Schemes are mental models that help us make sense of the world. Containing, Positioning, Trajectory, Transferring, Rotating, Orientation, Enclosing/Enveloping are essential to our capacity to estimate, count, write and read.

When we ‘seed’ learning environments to support children’s scheme development, we are building their knowledge, concepts and skills. Distance, direction, mass, effort, location, height, volume, speed, shape, space, perspective, pattern and symmetry depend on scheme development.

Join Marie in exploring schemes at Hillarys Community Kindy, 8:30am to 1:00pm, Saturdays 9 AND 30 August!
