The idea of a ‘learning conversation’ is just as you would expect from the name. It’s a conversation aimed at supporting learning.

Learning Conversations endeavour to unearth what we did, thought and felt in a particular situation, the knowledge and skills we demonstrated and what we have learned and carried forward as a result of this experience.

Years ago, I co-facilitated ‘soirees’. People would gather on a Thursday afternoon (and later, on a Sunday afternoon) to talk about things that they cared about: culture, Reggio Emilia, Books for Babies, outcomes, social constructivism, values, generative dialogue, writing, mentoring, ethics, sensory modalities, relationships, literacy, challenging racism, multilingualism and conflicts of interest. We would set a topic at one soiree, find a reading to provoke thinking and gather to explore the topic.

It was like a book club but focused on issues that were confronting, challenging or emerging.

How do you create space for people to come together to learn through conversation?
